Last Wednesday…
I posted ” Glitter,” Part 1.
Today, I am posting “Glitter,” Part 2
In which I turn last weeks’ ACROSTIC POEM into a NEW POEM using the Traditional TANKA form.
Review:
I wrote a poem, “Glitter,” as my part of a group project with fellow writers in Behind Our Eyes – Each of us wrote an ACROSTIC poem . And, I chose to write my ACROSTIC POEM in the TANKA form as well.
Today, I give you the other half of my story.
FIRST:
Go to my last post and read “Glitter,” Read it Here!
Read the poem on that link and then come back here to see what comes next.

NEXT..
Here is the revised version of my poem, “glitter,” which I have turned into a traditional tanka poem.
This tanka poem follows the tanka tradition.
iridescent swans
aquatic light reflections
glittering crystals
truffles in gold cellophane
black cherry tarts with whipped cream

LOOK for several things in this poem:
*There is no capitalization or punctuation in the poem.
*There is not a “title” or “number” for the poem.
*Line 3 is a “pivot” in the poem. This pivot changes the direction.
*And, finally, the poem is not read as a sentence.

BASIC Directions for creating a TANKA poem.
A tanka has 5 LINES.
–
Line 1 – 5 syllables (introduce an image or idea)
Line 2 – 7 syllables (expand on that image or idea)
Line 3 – 5 syllables (The THIRD LINE is a PIVOT line. Your poem changes or expands focus here)
Line 4 – 7 syllables (a reflection)
Line 5 – 7 syllables (a reflection)
