New Dreams on Your Horizon
This week, I enjoyed a quiet dinner with my husband and daughter at a local restaurant. As we sat chatting together before our food arrived, I had an unusual experience.
In a flash, I saw some critical events from long ago. A sharp vision appeared as I spoke with my family. I looked across the table at them, but I also saw a graphic representation of an encounter from 1976. I saw myself at my first painting class!
I seemed to be supernaturally viewing my younger self a segment from my past. It felt like I was watching a movie. I was transported to a different time. In this vision I was thirty-three years old again.
The image popped into focus. I saw a timeline of a specific point on a long journey over my lifetime.
The initial picture I saw began to reveal a linear view. I witnessed my own life passage. Suddenly, I understood why the theme of passage is an enduring theme in my creative life.
From decades of studies in art history, I know we can only understand current events in the context of a timeline over layers of years.
I ask, “What led up to this event?”
Past events cannot be erased or changed. Each past event was preceded by another earlier encounter of some sort. Understanding a story begins with an investigation of the past.
Each area I saw was a significant place on my individual timeline. These were places when I shed something familiar and turned towards something new and often frightening. I thought of my lesson in understanding what an evergreen plant does and why it thrives. The plant or tree sheds as it grows simultaneously.
I thought about my own progression in various life changes during our casual conversation. All the stops of the crucial moments of changes directly connected to a timeline that I saw intuitively. In a flash, I stepped out of time and place. I watched a series of photos on a screen in the distance.
I began to think about unique moments that I could recognize as a stopping place.
These were the places of change where something new or unexpected happened.
In each of those life-changing periods, there was a shift. Something happened that propelled me forward in the path of my life-path where I was at that time, and when something happened, that gave me a new direction. One by One, I was able to see those singular moments as I considered my own trajectory. In each encounter, I moved onward.
I suddenly understood that a new person stepped forward to give me the next direction that changed my world.
Over dinner, we spoke about how God provides to take us from one place to the next.
Upon reflection, I saw a timeline with each of the key people there at a particular intersection time.
Our dreams are waiting for us to find them. So, prepare to shed the past, step out and pivot to the new place in the future. It’s a miraculous journey.
The Holy Spirit is the one who knows our future and reveals the dreams that are given to us by God.
He is the one who planted the dreams deep in my heart.
At the time of the pivot, we are given choices.
If we decide to move on without taking the first step in seeking God’s guidance, we will undermine ourselves. When we follow our own devices, things unravel. We each have a divine purpose.
The journey to your new dream is already waiting on the horizon. Your dream consists of many little action steps. First, prepare to make a choice that will take you to a new place in the future. Life is waiting for you to take that first step.
