Expecting GOOD NEWS!
What does it mean when you say, “I received good news?”
What does “good news” mean to you?
I am curious about how YOU receive good news.
For me, good news usually comes in one of three ways.
First:
My rural mailbox is at 104 River Road, Ellwood City, PA.
Ours is a traditional black metal mailbox that stands beside our neighbor’s silver metal mailbox. The long-time neighbors live across the road from our garage. That’s where my River Road Studio is on the second floor.
Four houses are across the street, and our house and garage are the only buildings on this side of the road. It’s like a tiny village here at our end of the road.We live in the Village of Wurtemburg in western Pennsylvania.
I walk across our porch, down the four stairs, and onto the sidewalk, passing beside our Prayer Garden on my right and the yard and flower gardens on the left. Finally, I climb a concrete ramp that takes me to the driveway. I will cross over River Road and get the daily mail from there.
I’ve often heard people say,
“Some day my ship will come in.“
I think about that comment and ask,
“Well, how many ships have you set out?”
That will determine how many ships you have coming back to you. My mailbox is where my boats arrive, and every time I reach inside to gather the mail, I anticipate that perhaps today, one of my ships will be in the mailbox.
Good news arrives in my mailbox through invitations, checks, announcements, and a sweet letter from a friend or colleague. Of course, I don’t live near the ocean or a large lake, but my ships still arrive in my mailbox.
Second
My e-mail messages are another place where my ships come in. In the daily e-mail, I receive messages that invite me to submit my writing or art for special events.
I receive updates regularly on happenings in my world.
I get notices of book sales when people purchase my books.
I notice that my artwork has been accepted for a juried show, and I am informed when the work must be delivered, the opening and closing dates for the exhibition, and announcements for other events at the gallery.
I get personal messages from friends, family, and businesses.
Invitations arrive in e-mail messages. The good news about family events, community news, and many other notices.
Just last night, I received this notice :
Hi Lynda,
We are well into the narration of your book. I hope it will be ready by early next year, if not sooner.
Best,
Nancy

Songs for the Pilgrimage is my latest publication.
Last year, I learned it would be narrated and published as a voice recording at Perkins. That is GOOD NEWS.
I am delighted to say
Polly Slavet is narrating
Songs for the Pilgrimage.
Polly also recorded my book, ©Walking by Inner Vision: Stories & Poems, available on BARD (National Library Services). The order number is DBC 11608)
This book was narrated by Lillian Yves, for Audible. Get it HERE.
It is a beautiful book and I am thankful for both narrators for bringing my words to life for recordings for BARD and AUDIBLE.

Third:
In-person deliveries.
This week, I had an unexpected visitor. My son-in-law, Tony, was in town and dropped in to see me. It was a surprise visit. However, when he arrived, I was in pain with a toothache. I wondered how I could get to the dentist since I don’t drive any longer. Tony realized I was having pain, I was able to call the dentist and get an immediate appointment. Tony drove me there. My tooth problem was fixed, and Tony’s arrival that day was good news for me. Besides, when things like this happen, I realize that God provided for me again when I was in need of help. He had Tony arrive at the right time for me to get the help I needed. Yes, I believe that God is always right on time in every situation in our lives once we ask him to be there for us.
This weekend, my daughter, Heidi, arrived to stay for a few days. Perfect timing for me because I have a couple of projects I need help with, so her arrival is good news.
Yesterday, Heidi helped organize and arrange all of my collection of art books into the new bookshelves in my reading room. Jobs like this go much faster with a sighted person helping. The books were put into order in no time, and today my new bookcase looks beautiful and inviting.
Visits from friends and family are usually good news. They bring companionship on lonely days, helpful hands when things need to be arranged, and loving messages we all cherish.
Another way that good news comes to me through personal contact is the occasions when my artworks are in exhibitions. As an actively exhibiting artist, I relish the opportunities to have my work included in juried art shows. I also love the good news that my work has won an award. And, when I am given a lovely award ribbon or a check for this achievement, or the sale of my artwork. Each time I get the Good News, it’s an affirmation that I am living out my mission and calling in my life. Yes, I believe that every person is born with a calling. I enjoy talking about how we all have a calling and what that means. When I give public presentations, that is one of the points I share with my audiences.
Good News is always on the HORIZON – but you have to be EXPECTING IT.
Tell me about your own Good News – what’s happening in your life today that bring you joy and prosperity?
Share your GOOD NEWS with the world!
