Talisman
Life’s most powerful artwork is turning pain into a talisman that cures. A butterfly is reborn in a symphony of colors. ~Frida Kahlo
I saw this quote on a blog post recently.. The message stopped me in my tracks – for I am a TALISMAN MAKER. It’s not often I read anything about talismans or the creation of a talisman. However,, this is what I do in my studio in rural western Pennsylvania in the Village of Wurtemburg. Each talisman I create is unique and one-of-a-kind.
I create talismans and wall pieces – out of hand- dyed or commercial fabrics; natural gem stones; water-worn stones from the creek or a river nearby; Japanese Seed Beads; Czech Fire Polished Beads & Crystals; Swarovski Crystals; and a variety of Found Objects.
What do YOU know about TALISMANS?
A talisman is an object that reminds the wearer that there is supernatural power – a Holy God who is the Creator of all that exists. It is not the object itself that has powers, it is an object that reminds us that there is a Higher Power – the Creator – and he is in control of the entire universe and all of the properties that bring protection & healing.
The talismans I make are worn as a necklace.
As I work on a talisman, I am in a quiet state of prayer and communication with my Creator. Each talisman I make, reminds me that I am protected from all powers of evil or anyone who would try to steal my life or bring harm, sickness or death upon me. Talismans are objects of faith – a witness of my faith in God Almighty. They are sacred objects.

For a Christian, the cross has also been proved to emit strong positive energies that can ward off evil. A talisman gives the wearer a reminder that they are protected by God. From ancient time to the present, a talisman is the symbolic representation of God’s healing power. A talisman can be hung around the neck as a witness to God’s protection. The talisman is a REMINDER of God’s power, and a celebration of the natural world he created.
Christianity ~ A perfect example of a talisman in the Christian faith is the cross.
