The Poem:
Inspiration arrived early this morning
Inspiration arrived early this morning
I pressed
my feet deeper into plush blue blankets
I stretched
my legs and flexed my heels
I looked
slowly at the numbers on the bedside clock
I remembered
it’s the first morning of Autumn!
I knew
the rising sun can’t be seen through a window that faces west
I listened
to morning bird songs drifting into the room
I thought
about giving a gift to my lover this morning
I decided
it must be a divine offering fit for the gods
I remembered
a shiny silver box in the next room
I rose
to get the magical surprise that I would bring to him this morning
I brought
the shimmering gift – that was pure inspiration
I lifted
his warm arm and pushed the cool, slender metallic box under it
He reached
to grab the silver box of Cracker Jacks tucked under his arm.

The Backstory:
I wrote this poem on a winter morning in 2004.
My focus is the use of verbs to describe the actions as I take you on a little jaunt through the poem.
What was I thinking?
What did I see?
Did I hear anything?
How did I feel that morning?
I hope you can tell that my husband and I had a playful relationship when we were at home.
Sometimes, our relationship turns into a poem or story.
You can read more personal non-fiction stories and poems about our journeys in my book
Walking by Inner Vision: Stories & Poems.
DLD Books 2017.
This book is a thoughtful and joyous journey through a calendar year.
Readers have told me they keep this book on the nightstand and read a little from it every day. Others have told me they were sad when they came to the end of the book because they never wanted it to end. I am so grateful for all of the readers who give me feedback and comments.
