Riding Out the Daily Predictions
By Lynda McKinney Lambert
What will you be doing as you think about the week ahead?
And, in the weeks beyond?
In this article, I explain what I think about doing as I make my plan to ride out the daily predictions, we are all so aware of today. We are asked to stay home and avoid any gatherings, trips, and shopping so that we might avoid sickness and spreading a deadly virus. This is something we can all do.
I considered how I will spend my time. My husband and I are both well into our seventies. We both would be regarded as high-risk for potential health challenges.
First, a note about our health history.
Bob was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in April 2014. By the end of that year, he had months of horrendous treatments, and he had a stem cell transplant in October. I am thankful that he has been in good health since then. Bob is in remission six years afterward. But this could be a big problem if he encountered a severe respiratory illness of any length.
As for me, I am an over-comer and cancer-free since surgery and radiation treatment in 1988. I have annual examinations by the oncologist – surgeon. Mostly, I only think of this once a year, when it is time to go back to see him.
I had a severe bout of pneumonia some years back that kept me in the hospital for 8 days. Following my release from the hospital, I had to miss another 3 weeks of work because I was recovering at home. At any time, if I get the slightest sickness, it affects my respiratory system, and it takes me a long time to recover.
At the same time, I am not a person who is easily moved to anxiety or to fears of the unknown. This is my intention and by practice. Everything we think and do reflects our worldview. Remember that the majority of people have no idea what their own worldview even is and how their speech and actions demonstrate it.
We all speak our reality into existence. If we speak words of fear and terror, that is what our life will hold for us. We have a choice, always, in what we say and what we experience and how we manifest our worldview in everything in our life.
Bob and I will follow the advice the medical world is giving to us about how to encounter the present situation with a pandemic. Here is what we will do and why.
First,
we will not be out shopping, dining, or attending social functions.
It is not necessary for us. We don’t need to be in public places and mingling with others. This is just good sense and good practice – We will follow the directions we were given by the medical experts and our government officials.
Second,
we have 4 doctor visits scheduled for this month. Unless the doctor or hospital tells us not to come, we will keep those appointments. We will wait and do what we are told to do concerning our oncology and testing appointments. If they tell us it is safe to come, then we will.
Third,
we will use this block of time staying at home, and we will work on some projects in the house. This is the perfect time for some spring cleaning and organizing in our home. I have work to do on books in progress and several works of art to be shipped out to galleries for exhibitions in the Spring. I have work in progress in my fiber studio and lots of great books to read in my library. Our dogs and cats will love the extra attention we can give them by not being away from home as much.
This is the perfect time and weather to start washing all the walls in the rooms of our house. Changing bedding and pillows and washing them to make them fresh. There is nothing so lovely as linens, furniture, rugs, pillows, floors, and bedding that smells good. I love a pleasant-smelling atmosphere in the house, and I bet you do, too. We already started the process a few days ago, and Bob has been doing laundry for several days – plus, it is good exercise. We have to go up and down 2 flights of stairs repeatedly throughout the day to do the laundry. I love that!
Fourth,
I won’t be watching much television or doing much on the internet. I won’t be clicking on anything negative or panic-driven on the internet. I won’t be watching the news on TV. We all know what we need to do. We can do it! Please, don’t fill your mind with anxious thoughts. I think of my thoughts as a savings account where I make regular deposits. Our financial accounts are entirely in our control. We can control what we deposit and withdraw. We can live with an inner vision of peace and abundance.
My advice is, “Don’t dwell on the unruly and fear-filled crowds who are trying to gobble up all the resources they can in their rush to…what?”
Is there anything worse than feeding our spirit with negative fear-filled information?
If we continue to fill our thoughts with the terrors of the media outlets, then we will be running about like the little chicken in the storybook that thought the sky was falling. We don’t need to be like that! We can face crises with wisdom and a peaceful spirit.
Fifth_
I will keep my daily meditation on what is positive and uplifting. For me, I find that many many places in the Bible. But I will keep the message of Psalms 91 at the forefront of my meditations and prayers.
If you are interested in reading what King David had to say about the frightening times in his life, you can find it here. This is what I am holding on to today and, in the days, to come. This is how I have spent my life through more crisis and difficulties over the years – I know it works! I can say “I’ve been there and done that!”

I hope the six opening verses, written by King David, bring you peace of mind today. Focus on what God said to David during a time of crisis and uncertainty for him.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. [1]
2
I will say [2] of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3
Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5
You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
