Sunday Sunshine: stories, poems, reflections

What does the word, SUNshine,
mean to YOU?
For me, it means that I intend to write
articles that
SHINE BRIGHT on a variety of topics.
Today – I am celebrating NatureWriting.
A Literary Magazine, edited by Ron Harton.
This is a literary magazine that arrives in my in-box. I am always delighted to see each new issue. the photography is stunning; the writing is sensitive and thoughtful.
The magazine is Nature-themed. You will love it, too!
On the mornings when I make a cup of hot coffee and I go to my E-mail box, I occasionally find a message from editors. I am always delighted when I get a message from Ron Harton, for it usually means he plans to publish one of my poems or essays. Recently, his note told me that he plans to publish 2 of my poems in June.
“After an All-Night Rain,” published on June 8.
You can listen to me reading the poem, published this week in NatureWriting.
Click on the arrow to the LEFT of the bar and wait a 12 seconds for the recording to begin. Sit back, and enjoy the poem. Relax. Breathe.
I wrote “After an All-Night Rain,” in memory of my mother, Esther Kirker McKinney (1920 – 2007).
We walked together in the early mornings, every day, for years. We were best friends. Time alone with her was a sacred pleasure and a gift from God.
Our 3-mile trek on rural country roads made a circle along a creek and through the woods. On our walks together we talked about daily life, our faith in God, and ordinary mundane things we enjoyed together. I share fragments of memories I have of those many years of walking together with my mother. And, I am aware of the ancestors who walked those roads long before we did – and I think about how I walk over the layers of memories. I can feel my mother cheering me on to complete my own life-journey some days. Do you ever feel these soft whispers, too?

Editor, Ron Harton, had this to say about my poem:
Thanks for sharing your poem. It is a very moving reminder that we walk with those who have gone before us on the trail.
You will be able to find another poem of mine in the June 16 issue of NatureWriting, when “The Berchtesgadener Street Stone” will be featured.
Please come back for more great poetry, essays and photos to www.naturewriting.com

The poems remind me of the beauty, majesty mystery and blessing of this world. Each poet brings new insights and information to me every week.
NatureWriting is a
Sunday Sunshine – it brightens my day and lifts my thoughts.
Where is YOUR sacred pleasure?
Where do you experience whispers from another time or place?
It is found in a special place where you can feel at home with Nature?
The natural world of my own spot-of-heaven-on-earth is western Pennsylvania.
Many of my reflections come from my feelings for the people and places where I live.
Wherever you are today, there is a natural world around you that is stunning. Find it!
All of Nature is for our good pleasure.
Take a look around and bear witness to this glorious truth.
Thank you…
to editor, Ron Harton, for this beautiful magazine.
Nature writing is born out of love, respect, and awe. It finds its subject during days of close observation of the natural world. It finds its voice in the relationship with nature developed during those days. ~Ron Harton
