I post a new poem each day in April.
National Poetry Month – Day 7
An Acrostic Poem about my grandfather, James Addison Kirker.
James Addison Kirker
1883 – 1955
James built western Pennsylvania houses
Attended Wurtemburg Methodist church
Music filled his home with melodies
Evening family concerts of cornet, alto sax, and piano
Seven children were his heritage
Always called his wife “Dutch”
Dedicated to work for food
During the Great Depression
Inclement weather made no difference
Supported his family with his bare hands
Only drove his Cadillac on Sunday mornings
Nine passengers arrived on time
Kirkers and Kieslings filled the pews
In the little country church where I grew up
Revivals. Sunday worship. Wednesday prayers
Kirker and Kiesling families with babies and elders
Every meal blessed by a prayer
Resting forever in hill-top mausoleum beside his wife, Ida Matilda.

Would you like to write a poem today
about your grandparents?
You can put the letters of their name in a vertical column down the left side of your page.
Now, you can create a poetic line that describes your grandparent. Use the letter at the beginning of each line to create your personal poem in this way. This is an ACROSTIC poem.
