National Poetry Month – Day 21 – Untersberg Daydream
National Poetry Month – Day 21
Friday, April 21, 2023
I post a new poem each day in April.
“Untersberg Daydream
The dentist said
“Go to your happy place.”
This is going to hurt, I know.
Yet, I am already standing
on top of the Untersberg
watching swift ravens
floating above me in wide circles
on a warm summer breeze.
Charlemagne is waiting for me
Inside the mountain.
He wakes up every hundred years
To see if the ravens are still flying
Around the Untersberg.
I say, “It is all just fine up here, Charlemagne.”
See the ravens are still flying. Now
you can go back to sleep again
for another hundred years.

You can write a poem about your favorite place, too.
Where do you go in your mind, when you go to your happy place?
Think of an experience you had and put some words down on your paper.
