Orchestrated Performances
by Lynda McKinney Lambert, April 2, 2023
Aerial musicians and singers
Atmospheric performers beyond
thick fair-haired forsythia hedge
on chilly wet morning
I glance upwards towards eastern
Alabaster skyline
searching for overhead flights.
My feet sink gently
into soft wet grass
I lead the way
Two dogs in tandem
Sniffing a fresh trail
Left by a grey squirrel.
I stoop to touch dainty yellow daffodil
near the early spring treeline
We stop, listen to steady
riveting beats
speculate
ambitious woodpecker
urges attention
A single wild goose
yells
glides swiftly over
rushing grey-green stream
beyond the stark curly willow tree
my husband planted in this meadow
sixteen years ago.

The End.
