Knee Deep, by Christina M. Eder
Volume 3 of the Frog Blog Series
A Nine-Month whirlpool of Handwritten Letters to the Creator.
Did you ever think of writing a letter to God?
How would you do it?
Would you ask questions about your everyday life and experiences?
Would you offer God some suggestions, or help?
To Whom would you address those messages?
It is hard to say what we would do, isn’t it!
But, in this collection of short daily letters to God, Christina tackles some tough questions that many of us would also be asking. As I read this book, I was asking myself how I would talk to God if I started writing him a letter every day, knowing that other people would be reading them when the book was published.
In this third publication by Tennessee author, Christina M. Eder, we are faced with many question as we begin to read her letters to God. She calls him by many different names as we proceed through the correspondance. Hold on, because you are about to step right into the Whirlpool!
When I began to read this book, I realized that the short letters were deeply personal, and Christina explores so many topics in the collection it would be impossible to say exactly what the focus is for the collection. I found that the questions she asks cover a broad range of topics. I decided to read one or two a day, to get the most out of the experience.
In Part 1:
The book opens with Christina writing her first letter, “Dear Jesus.”
She is talking about her new business cards. and describes herself as “an encourager.” She asks God for “big messages in few words.”
Here are a few of those big messages in few words:
-Longing for personal connections that are not done through a screen or appointment
-Discernment in priorities
-Selecting One Word for the year
-She feels she is at her best when crocheting and praying
–
Part 2:
The tone of Christina’s voice changes. She speaks of her “grieving heart.”
-She wants to be traveling more
-She cites a number of occupations that she would like to do
The reader can feel the struggles she is having in her personal life,
-Restlessness is an overarching theme
- Christina states what her greatest fear is on p. 150
You can find out what that is when you read this book.
On page 159, she wrote about having dinner with her husband. While dining, he stopped and asked her to dance with him! This touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes, it was so poignant and lovely. In a single moment, nothing else in this world could matter when a man asks his wife to dance with him, I thought, this gesture of love is stunning.
I will stop here with this precious moment in the book.
The book has 314 pages.
I think Knee Deep would make an exceptionally nice Christmas Gift for the people on your list who enjoy reading positive, uplifting books.
