Why this name for WEDNESDAY?
Deon often referred to his Windows 10 program as Wicked Good Windows 10.

I’ll be writing my

Wicked Good Wednesday Blog Posts

to celebrate the WICKED GOOD LIFE that we all share.

Deon is now in a battle with cancer and undergoing intensive treatments in his home state of Maine.
A group of his literary friends from
Behind Our Eyes – to write an ACROSTIC POEM which will become

A LITERARY WREATH

of good wishes and prayers for Deon. Each of us chose a theme for our part of the wreath.

I chose to offer GLITTER for the wreath.
Therefore, my ACROSTIC EXTENDED TANKA poem is “glitter & sequins.”

But this is only 1/2 of the story!

This is Part 1 of my story, Glitter & Sequins.

What is an ACROSTIC POEM?” you asked.
“Oh, thanks for asking. I’d be glad to show you how the ACROSTIC POEM is created,” I said. “In fact, you can write one, too. Let’s get started right now.”

First, we will write one word (or a phrase) vertically down the LEFT SIDE of our page.

For example, my poem is “glitter and sequins.”

I start by writing the word “glitter” vertically down the LEFT MARGIN of my page.
My page looks like this:

Next, I begin to write the poem using the first letters, in each of the lines.

My poem is 7 lines because the word “glitter” has 7 letters.

Below is the Poem I wrote to add to my friend’s Literary Wreath.

glitter and sequins

glitter and sequins
light reflected on crystals
iridescent pearls
truffles in gold cellophane
tarts with cherries and walnuts
each Christmas wreath sparkles with
remembrances for Deon.

In Next week’s post, I will give you the story about where this writing project led me, after I wrote the poem.

Let’s see where this ONE THING leads me. I think you will like it!

Oh, there is just one more bit of information thing I need to share with you about this poem.
Yes, the format is the ACROSTIC poem, as I described to you.

But I challenged myself to ALSO make the poem a “tanka” poem, at the same time.
When you read each line of the poem, you will hear the syllables.
Listen as you read each line out loud. COUNT THE SYLLABLES.
Here is what you will hear:

Line 1 – 5 syllables
Line 2 – 7 syllables
Line 3 – 5 syllables
Line 4 – 7 syllables
Line 5 – 7 syllables
Line 6 – 7 syllables
Line 7 – 7 syllables

Typically, a tanka has no more than 5 LINES.
Because I wanted to work with the word “glitter” I added on 2 more lines.
Each of the 2 extra lines have 7 syllables.
