Garden Song – Lily of the Valley
Poems & Prayers

Poem:
Lily of the Valley (tanka)
tiny white bells drip
after gentle all-night rain
peek between green leaves
delicate fragrant flower
lilies of the valley bloom

Backstory:
My plan for this morning is to pull weeds in my flower gardens.
The day is perfect because we had a gentle all-night rain.
I discovered a surprise when I walked along the sidewalk beside the patch of Lily of the Valley plants.
I bent over to look at them more closely, The plants have been in this spot since before we moved into this house in the summer of 1967. There are so many plants that they are densly packed together. As I stooped down and reached out to have a closer look, I discovered the dainty little white bells are now open and nicely arranged on the stems they are attached to. My heart felt so happy at that moment, to see them blooming. The fragrance of these little plants is so pleasant. I will pick a little bouquet to bring into my house later today.
