The Review:
Recently, I received a box of books from Amazon. I ordered several copies of this excellent collection of very accessible poetry. I ordered one copy for myself, and several additional copies for gifting to people I know would appreciate the beautiful poems. Each one is an intimately crafted poetic memoir of special places and events. The book showcases a wide variety of personal experiences with this theme. Each one is memorable.
This is the sort of book that you will pick up and read for years.
I can think of it as a book to begin the day with, or to end the day with a single reading that you can hold in your heart and contemplate what you read.
I particularly liked the presentation of the works in this book. First, the COVER, is a beautiful color of orange with bright yellow text. That immediately makes me think of happiness and loving care given to the collected poems inside.
The cover design is a gestural sketch of an empty bird nest – and the parallel imagery to the works in the book is significant.
The most outstanding feature of this book, for me, is the careful presentation of the poems in a unique and thoughtful space. The interior design is important, particularly in a book of poetry. I believe there is a visual balance that must be carefully planned out when the book is designed and edited. The poems must appear in balance with the weight of space on the page. Poetry, above all other literary forms, require special attention to presentation similar to exhibiting a painting in an art gallery.
There is not crowding of text on the pages. Each particular poem has it’s own space on the page. Other pages remain blank, and this is so refreshing to see. It gives the entire book a feeling of respect for space. The blank pages carry their own peacefulness in between the poems, or beside the poems.
I promise you will not be disappointed when your copies arrive. I know you will want to have copies sent to special people in your life – birthday, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas, and just any day at all.
The Backstory:
My poem, “The Chilly Breeze” is included in this collection of poems.
The book features winning poems that are top prizes awarded by the editors.
Overall, this is an engaging book of poetry that would be a wonderful gift for a reader age 15 to adult.
