From the Winter Series

Description: Encrusted Bead working, gemstones, Czech and Swarovski Crystals, Japanese seed beads. sterling silver accents.

 I am sharing a glimpse of the life journey of the creation of this artwork.

Photo by Lynda – I begin to arrange the largest gemstones, and establish the outside edge  of the artwork. I stitch around the gemstones to anchor them in place. This is called, “Capturing the Cabochons.”

Look for the cabochon’s in this artwork.

What is a Cabochon?

A cabochon, pronounced cab-uh-shon, is defined as a gemstone that has been shaped and polished rather than faceted.

The term comes from the French word “caboche,” which means head or noggin.

Cabochon gemstones generally have a smooth, domed top surface and a flat base.

The top of the gemstone is highly polished and it reflects light.
