Friday’s Poem – Labor Day
by Lynda McKinney Lambert
Friday, September 6, 2024
This “freeform” poem was written on “LABOR DAY,” this year.
I was thinking about the labor of American Poets and what we do every day
I read this poem aloud at the Writer’s Workshop on Tuesday evening, this week.
It is sponsored by Behind Our Eyes, writers with disabilities.
The Poem:
Poem -01_Sept-02_Labor Day
First Monday in September
I celebrate American poets
solitary workers of mysteries
scribblers of laborious artifacts
forged, sliced, tumbled, shaped
marks and strokes on fragile pages
love letters, condolences, invitations
relics carved in marble or stone
engraved on park benches
displayed on museum walls
post cards
saved
in transparent pages

The Backstory:
As part of our post card exchange during 2024, I mail a post card with a poem and original artwork to Carol Farnsworth, Ada, Michigan.
I wrote this poem on Labor Day, this year. I was thinking about how a poet labors in the literary fields every day. I recognize the historical lineage that a poet is very aware of when working on their own poems.
Mailed to Carol Farnsworth: Sept.3 , 2024
Read at Reader’s Workshop, September 3, 2024.

Blessings are Always
in my NEWS!
“Blessings” arrive in my mail box, via telephone, or through my computer.
Some are financial blessings that I did not know were coming to me.
I receive awards and sales, for my books, writings and artworks.
Some days I am invited out to lunch, or simply to go for a walk in the park with a friend.
Blessings come to us all the time if we are open to them.

Lynda has created a beautiful collection of 130 little poems with themes from nature.
She learned at an early age about the wonders of nature growing up in rural western Pennsylvania.
“My father was a gardener, and many of my writings reflect childhood experiences that have stayed with me. Poems in this collection were gleaned from my memories over the decades and from the gardens I tend now. My hope is that you also will find some small pleasures in my little poems.”
~Lynda McKinney Lambert
This book contains “little poems,” Haiku, Tanka, and Free-form.
This remarkable book is perfect for GIFTING to readers who love nature, faith in God, and inspiring meditations.
