Poetry – A Drawing for Delaunay Elise
“ CAN YOU Write a Poem to a Small Child or Baby?”
Let’s write a little free-form poem to someone you love today.
My example: “A Drawing for Delaunay Elise”
is a little poem I wrote about 20 years ago.
I wrote it as a message to a little baby who is my Great-Granddaughter, Delaunay Elise. I wrote a journal entry while traveling the summer after her birth. I missed her and I was in my studio in Austria. As I began to draw, I began writing the words of this poem. It was spontaneous and quick
This quick-study poem was easy to do.
My recommendation is to Just close your eyes and let your thoughts drift to your memories or your current circumstances.
Is there a small child, or baby, that you love so much and that you want to write about?
Think about what you want the child to know – someday in the future the little child will still have your thoughts as you recorded them in your poem. Make it personal and share your love in this way.
~ YOU CAN DO IT~
this poem is published in my 2 of my books:
Concerti: Psalms for the Pilgrimage, Kota Press, 2002
Songs for the Pilgrimage, 2021.
“A Drawing for Delaunay Elise”
My arms know how
to gather completeness
and gently encircle
your delicate form.
I have strength
enough for the moment
for you are fragile
and changing inside.
I remain constant
and begin to draw.
